Therefore let us also seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Heb: 12:1, 2
One of the right choices to make as a Christian racer in this life is the choice to “lay aside every weightâ€â€¦ that so easily “besets†a believer. By this scripture, it is clear that every believer in one way or the other comes heavily under these weights at one point of their lives or the other. But the choice to lay aside every of such weights is the distinguishing factor. It distinguishes the victorious from the vanquished. What could these weights be?
These weights may not be what we refer to as sin generally but they have the potential and the capacity to weaken or even stop us from running a successful Christian race. Some of these weights are anxiety, fear, pleasure, neglecting to render services to God, extreme liberality, materialism and pursuit after the earthly things of at the expense of Spiritual life and things like that.
In case you do not know, the Bible makes it clear that you carry a serious weight on your shoulder when your ambitions for material gains do not balance with your passion for spiritual gains. When you go after “things†for days without balancing it with passion for the things of the Spirit, you put yourself under a heavy carnal weight that can weaken or crush anything spiritual in your life. The demand of the Kingdom is first to identify these weights and the biblical alternatives and then making worthwhile choices.
The decision to balance our daily pursuits with God’s ordained spiritual expectations is a right choice to make though, these decisions will require much sacrifices. There are the secrets of real joy and happiness. It will give you confidence in life and help you to win in all circumstances. Make a choice to embrace God’s will today and see how God will reciprocate it by being a blessing to you. God bless you.
