MAKING DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS
Making disciples of all nations. The nations here means all tribes and people that are yet to be reached with the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The United Evangelical Church, Utako – Abuja in keeping with this mandate, decided to set up a mission unit with the following responsibilities:
- Survey
- Reaching Out
Survey:
By surveying we mean carrying out a survey with the view to discover new areas or people or tribes where Christ has not been known i.e. the people that have not heard the message of salvation or rather the Good news, in clear terms, in their own language enough to make any decision.
Reaching Out:
From Mt. 14:15-19, Jesus fed the five thousand men. When He collected the five loaves of bread and two fish, He probably directed that the people sit down in rows. There is the probability that the people sitting in the first row will eat again and again and even tend to vomit out of overfeeding, while the people seating in the last row will barely have a bit of the Lord’s bread and fish. This picture is like the churches in our times. The churches in the city tends to be overfed with the goods while those in the remote areas barely have anybody reaching out to them with the good news of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
From Mt. 9:38, the Lord mandated the church to send workers into His harvest field because, the field is ripe for harvest. In view of the above, UEC Utako through the mission department recruits workers and send them forth into the harvest field i.e. those tribes that are yet to be reached and already crying that “…the harvest is past and the summer is ended and we are yet to be saved”(Jer. 8:20).
